According to a state of the industry report by Spil GamesMore than 1.2 billion people are playing games worldwide.
comScore data cited by Spil Games says, of those, about 700 million play online games. That amounts to 44 percent of the world’s online population.
“Many people don’t know how big gaming is,” said Oscar Diele, chief marketing officer at Spil Games, a maker of online and mobile games that are mostly targeted at girls.
“Gaming is a huge part of people’s online activities. It’s really mainstream, crossing age and gender boundaries.”
It mashed the data together in a 17-page report that Netherlands-based Spil Games collected research from a variety of sources, including Newzoo, World Population Clock, comScore, eMarketer, Goo Technologies, PopCap, Cisco, SpotXchange, Brightroll, and Akamai.
Spil Games an untapped market reaches itself to lots of girls, counting up to more than 50 million girls through its websites for both online games based on Adobe’s Flash format as well as multiplatform mobile titles based on HTML5.
Diele said in an interview with GamesBeat that developers should make their offerings like TV shows, with cliffhanger moments that keep the audience engaged. He also said that advertisers should start to spend more on video ads within games.
“Not a lot of data is available, and that’s why advertisers don’t spend as much as they should targeting gamers,” Diele said. The majority of Spil Games’ revenue comes from ads.
The data demonstrates that 46 percent of gamers are women and 54 percent are men. And such top categories for boys and men are racing, sports, and action games while for women the top categories for are puzzle, quiz, word, matching, and mahjong games. And the top categories for girls are cooking, dress-up, and pet care games.
With reference to 47 percent of females ages 15 to 24 play games, whilst 54 percent of males do.  On the upper end, 41 percent of females and 37 percent of males over age 45 play games.
Sixty-nine percent said their most common place to play games is on the couch while 57 percent play at home in bed, 41 percent play in front of the TV, 34 percent play on the toilet, 55 percent play waiting for an appointment and lastly 63 percent play as a passenger in a bus, train, or car.
According to comScore, in terms of territories, gaming has spread the world over.  Seventy percent of the online population in Turkey plays games. Fifty-three percent of Brazil’s online population and 62 percent of Argentina’s plays games. And 54 percent of Poland’s population plays online games.

Black Hawk Mines Online Games - Professionals de-stress from online games

Singh's is just one of the mushrooming cases of online game addiction - a trend that according to psychologists it is a good stress buster, if not overdone.

An example is, in a surroundings like our busy streets and cities, where concrete buildings leave barely any space for trees, now there is this Farmville on social networking site Facebook that offers the chance to have a sprawling farm and grow exotic vegetables.  It was just like in real life, you must plough the field, water your plants and manure them just like you would in a natural farm.

"Call it whatever, but I find Farmville extremely relaxing. I grow carrots, cauliflowers, brinjals and even have some farm animals like cattle and hens! Somehow, moving away from the gruelling schedule of working endlessly on the computer and then driving through traffic jams, this is a perfect breakaway," Singh told IANS.

Ginni Bajaj, another young professional, said: "Every now and then, between my work, I go online and play a game of scrabble or Farmville. It acts as a good stress buster or boredom slayer and I can re-focus on my work better after that."

"Many times my friends, who are online, also join me in the game," she added.

For lack of space for physical activity or otherwise, kids too love playing online games.
Ten-year-old Vansh Batra said: "I love playing online games and since my summer vacations are on, I have ample time. At times my dad joins me after getting back from work."

According to Deepali Batra, clinical psychologist at Batra Hospital, online games act as good stress busters and are advised for professionals who have long and gruelling work hours.

"Whenever we hold stress management workshops, we advise professionals to take a short break and play some online games. This can improve their focus and output," Batra told IANS.

Tarun Sahni, a 30-year-old professional, said: "Today, meeting deadlines takes priority over meeting a relative or a friend. And after a 12-hour shift, you don't have the energy for any outdoor games or sports. So to unwind, online games are the best option."

Experts, however, say that a balance should be maintained while playing these games.
Batra said: "A balance must be maintained between work and play. And even while playing online games, one should play more of puzzles and quizzes."

Samir Parikh, consultant psychiatrist at Max Healthcare hospital, said: "Online games are a quick escape for young professionals leading a hectic lifestyle. But an excess of it means compromising their social life which may be catastrophic."

"Physical activity is essential; so a person needs to strike a balance between the two," he said.

"The dazzling splendour of the virtual world makes the youth succumb easily. Websites like secondlife.com, gojiyo.com, Farmville, when they are introduced in the panorama of the animated world, affects their mental health to a great extent".

Even school and college goers have taken to online games in a big way.

"Youngsters tend to get cut off from the real world and become engrossed in virtual gaming websites. Eventually they tend to lose interest in their daily normal activities, start losing interest in curricular, and co-curricular activities and studies appear secondary to them, and winning these games becomes of primary importance," he said
Apart from affecting social behaviour, the tendency to remain in isolation could also adversely affect the way genes work as well as the immune responses of the body, experts say.

Black Hawk Online Games Microsoft is urging reset on policies related to its Xbox One video game console

Two major features of Microsoft’s next-generation console are dropped by the company.  These are regular online authenticity checks required to play video games offline and restrictions on what players can do with games after purchase.
Microsoft says, in an update issued Wednesday, the shift in Xbox One policy stems from consumer feedback.
"While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content," Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft's Interactive entertainment business, said in a statement. "We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds."
The Microsoft statement says no internet connection will be required to play any Xbox One game. Also, avenues for trading, renting, lending or selling purchased games will remain as they are today with the Xbox 360.
Microsoft outlined how its Xbox One would function when it launches this November for $499; this move marks a full turn for Microsoft from several weeks ago.  In earlier statements, Microsoft said users would have to check in online every 24 hours to play any games offline. Microsoft also planned the inability to rent or lend games at launch as limits to how games were used.
Sony, a well-known rival will be launching its PlayStation 4 this holiday, the options provoked harsh criticism from them.  Sony Computer Entertainment of America President Jack Tretton emphatically proclaimed during a press conference at last week's Electronic Entertainment Expo that the PS4 would not restrict games or require routine online checks.
"You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc," Mattrick said. "The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you."
Nonetheless, the Family option to share a games library with as many as 10 other people for example will be shelved due to Microsoft's reversal of many features planned for Xbox One
Consumer feedback led to the changes, Marc Whitten, chief product officer for Microsoft's interactive entertainment business, said in a telephone interview after the update was issued. "They tell us what they love about what we are doing and when we are doing something they don't like, they tell us, too," he said.
As it stood, some consumers saw the Xbox One as "a highly restricted system," said DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole. "The idea of online connectivity is bad from a personal usage perspective. For example, many potential consumers are mobile college students or young kids being shuffled between parents. Having to always have their system connected is a major pain."

‘Nintendo Land’ has not fulfilled the same role as ‘Wii Sports’, says Iwata

http://reviews.blackhawkmines-online.com/2013/06/24/nintendo-land-has-not-fulfilled-the-same-role-as-wii-sports-says-iwata/

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, during an analyst briefing, discussed some of the challenges that the Wii U faces in regards to its competition with Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

He specifically talked about how people don’t seem to quite understand the role of the GamePad. “I would say that ‘Nintendo Land’ has not fulfilled the same role as ‘Wii Sports’ did when we bundled it with Wii,” he said, trying to explain why consumers haven’t accepted the GamePad in the alike way they were drawn towards the motion controllers of the previous generation.

“Of course, we won’t remain silent and do nothing,” he continued. We are going to release a variety of Wii U software, and with each title, we would like to show how convenient and delightful it is to have the Wii U GamePad controller, and how it changes the gaming experience.” Then he pointed to Pikmin 3 as a game that possibly will fulfill that role.

As for third party support, Iwata said Nintendo plans on continuing to developer quality software to sell the console, which will, in turn, draw outside developers in to develop for the platform. In order to do so, however, Nintendo must compete with the ever-growing smartphone and tablet gaming scene. Iwata knows this.

“Under these circumstances, we feel that it is important to offer games that are even more polished than before in terms of quality to have consumers buy our products, understand the value that they offer and recommend them to others by word-of-mouth,” he said. “It now requires incredibly high-quality products to satisfy consumers to the level where they feel compelled to recommend them to others; the barriers are indeed higher than before.

“We had to push back the releases of some games because it has become more difficult to satisfy the quality standards that we feel are necessary for games to satisfy before they are released. It was not because it took us more time to take advantage of what is unique about the hardware.”

Iwata repeatedly stated that there are third party developers actively making games for the Wii U.

Lastly, the Nintendo president discussed free-to-play and his company’s take on the model. “The ability to offer software in a digital format has given us greater flexibility in terms of how we offer our products to consumers and how to monetize them. However, we are not planning to offer, for example, Mario or Pokémon games in a free-to-play format.”

He is confident that Nintendo holds enough trust amongst consumers to sell more established franchise entries for full game prices, but what about new IPs? “In such circumstances, our current platforms (Nintendo 3DS and Wii U), which give us various monetization options that would not have been possible on past Nintendo platforms, enable us to make propositions in a free-to-play format,” he says.

Nintendo has so far focused on our packaged software business, but we are planning to take on the challenge of releasing free-to-play games too. I believe we will be able to make concrete propositions within this fiscal year,” continued Iwata.

“On the other hand, free-to-play games, if unbalanced, could result in some consumers paying extremely large amounts of money, and we can certainly not expect to build a good relationship with our consumers in this fashion. In order to have a favorable long-term relationship, we would like to offer free-to-play games that are balanced and reasonable.”

Gamer proposes with four-hour role-playing game With this game, I thee wed.

http://reviews.blackhawkmines-online.com/2013/05/10/gamer-proposes-with-four-hour-role-playing-game-with-this-game-i-thee-wed/

There have been many various wedding proposals prepared via video game modifications.  Here is another whole new level of proposal, actually building a game from scratch for the sole purpose of asking for someone's hand. That's a new level altogether, romantic indeed.
Marchaka, a Redditor, has a pretty ideal girlfriend a gamer would want to have in Michele, as the two shares a serious love of video games.  That made him think and got then wheels on his head thinking when he decided to pop the question.
Marchaka used VX Ace a $70 role-playing game maker and then he built Michele's Quest. Michele's Quest is a Final Fantasy-style title that consists of four acts and four boss battles.
After successfully completing each act, the player, Michele, Marchaka’s girlfriend, is rewarded with an image showing the location of a real-world key.  Sitting next to the computer Michele played on was a chest with four locks.  When she arrive at the fourth was unlocked, there was a note reading "turn around," where she saw Marchaka on bended knee with the ring.
Not to any surprise, she said "yes."
Marchaka has only little programming experience.   It took him over 160 hours to build the game, which is filled with in-jokes, humor and loads of video game references.  And lest you think Marchaka spent the four hours, it took Michele to complete the game standing over her shoulder.  He even managed to plan ahead for that unforeseen event as well.
"We had some guests over and so I tried to downplay it by cooking a big dinner for everyone," he said. "I spent most of my time in the kitchen but how the place is designed I can see the computer from there. The guests pulled up chairs next to her and chimed in with commentary and jokes…took any tension out of it until the big moment."
Marchaka's proposal has resemblance and can make you think back to Gary Hudston's complicated yet elegant proposal to his then-girlfriend Stephy. Coordinating with the community and team members at Valve, he built a trio of levels for Portal 2 that in the long run led to a proposal voiced by none other than GLaDOS, the game's AI villain, herself.
Marchaka has made the game available to anyone who wants to play it, as his story of proposal has gone viral.

Black Hawk Online Games: Online Gaming Effects on Work Productivity
henrichfritz
http://blackhawkmines-online.com/2013/04/23/black-hawk-online-games-online-gaming-effects-on-work-productivity/
Aside from many various things that you can do over the internet, playing online games is one of the most addictive.  Some says several of these online games are good to kill time and to entertain you on your short breaks.  However, some of these games can require frequent logins, for example business management, strategy and RPG games.  To play with the said game, gamer should have to login on a daily basis or even many times a day.  This causes interruption on jobs while they are wasting time playing online games rather than spending it to work.

As a solution for this, lots of companies are using web filtering solutions that permit them to limit access to any website they regard as the cause of decrease in productivity of their staff and are not needed to do their jobs so that they can restrict the access of their employees to distracting online activities.  Therefore, companies restrict the access to social networks, news websites, online flash games websites, video streaming websites and other online content considered to be distracting.

Employees attempt to discover other methods of accessing their desired websites and online games because of boredom, addiction together with some other reasons.  Web proxies is one of the most used ways among all others.  Web proxy is a method where employees are competent to evade boundaries forced at work and visit otherwise unavailable websites.  As consequences to those people who are addicted to internet habits such as social networking and games, they often had a hard time keeping their jobs and relationships, may it be either to, family, friends and loved one.  As bad as severe cases are there are also some mild yet still causing some efficiency issues at work which results in diminishing an employer’s performance among other effects.

Various companies monitor the online traffic of their people to observe whether they are utilizing the Internet for productive purposes or not, this is to stop their workers from wasting time surfing the web rather than working.  This technique is a bit less of aggressive and tenders a firm degree of litheness for employees, permitting them to reasonably use the Internet for leisure.  In this sample, they can once in a while visit their favorite websites, social networks and even play online games but only for short periods of time, it may be during coffee or lunch breaks.

Conversely, when carry out with restraint; benefits can also be given by these online activities.  From time to time people just have to have a quick break or get away from whatsoever things they were doing.  Sometimes everyone needs to clear their mind and go back to their task invigorated and relaxed.  In everything there will always be two sides of the coins, in this case there could be some negative yet there could also be some positives, this is why restricting access to all leisure online activities in offices, schools and institutions can have negative effects.  People will think their freedom is ruthlessly restricted and their employers do not trust them.
